I have a Lattitude E6500 with an intel 5300 (AGN) wireless card which has 'N' connectivity. I also have a netgear DG834N which is also draft 'N'.

Both should work on N out of the box, but for some reason I only ever seem to have 54mps connection from the connection manager popup bubble.

Im unfortunately using the dell control point connection manager, any suggestions what I should look at to check everything is turned on correctly and working.

Read the manual. Usually you need to set up certain things on the router and on the notebook. For example, on my D-Link DIR-655 you need to do stuff in this link:

Some issues might arise if you have other connections to your router (I believe it runs as fast as the slowest component). Make sure you have the correct encryption and channel width. Draft N typically doesn't work out of the box w/ the default configurations.

The router is set up in mode 'upto 270Mbps' so should be broadcasting. I think its the laptop end of things, and im having real trouble trying to find how to enable N on it, unfortunately they dont ship with manuals like they used to!

Sometimes the router has to be set to only n, single frequency band (usually 5GHz), 40Hz channel width, and WPA2 w/ AES. Make sure you match this information on your laptop, along w/ the channel number. Do you have any other wireless devices connected to the router?
