After updating to the latest IDT driver (Nov 11) from the dell webpage STACSV.EXE radomly takes up around 50% cpu usage.
    Anyone else seeing this?

I've rolled back to the July 8th drivers to see if it happens again.

Yeah, I'm seeing exactly the same thing, typically after I come out of standby. I just blogged about several problems I've been having with my E6500 (tinyurl.com/6lztgd).

Please post a response if you find that the rolled back driver works.

I started a thread about this for the E6400, version A04 appears to be doing this, the first release for Vista, A02 i believe, works fine.

Thanks for posting guys, I was starting to think I was the only one with this problem.
Oh - well, I'm typing up a letter to my Dell rep right now to return this E6500, i'm going to get a new Macbook Pro.

    m4400 has it too :(

Spotted the process running last night and it doesn't really do anything does it? I just closed it and the audio went on playing so it's nothing essential.

Has anyone tried uninstalling all the Dell provided audio drivers and software and let windows find it automatically?

I recall reading that people suggest you uninstall the IDT drivers and use the default windows ones which makes things sound better.

Restarting the service seemed to fix the problem for now. My CPU was running at well over 50% and my battery was draining in under an hour.

Found stacsv.exe to be the problem and just restarted the service. Now CPU is running at 11% again as it should.

    Cheers
