I reinstalled and I cant get the fingerprint reader to work. I've installed the Dell Access, Access Drivers, Middleware and ControlVault software...when I try and enroll a fingerprint, it says "there is not fingerprint reader hardware installed."

The Fingerprint swipe sensor shows up in the device manager...

    ...help!

You can try uninstalling and then re-installing the driver, perhaps that'll make it work. I had a similar issue with my Webcam when I upgraded to Windows 7 (x64). I just uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and they just worked.

If you have installed the ControlVault driver, there is no way to get the fingerprint working. :( Unfortunately there is no way to uninstall it. Try using system restore to roll back before installing the ControlVault. If this doesn't work, the only solution is windows reinstalling.

After a clean install (or a successfull roll back), install these three packages in this order:
1st: Data Protection | Access — Driver Package
2nd: Data Protection | Access – Middleware Package
3rd: Data Protection | Access – Application Package

Of course, don't install the ControlVault driver! :)

I reloaded and it seems to be working, but it won't let me enroll a fingerprint. It lets me get to the swipe point, but it doesn't recognize any of my swipes.

I still have the Dell load on the hard drive it came with...and it works...what the heck...any ideas?

This is the drivers I have installed:

    Nevermind :).

The problem fixed itself. I restarted a few times, did windows updates and it worked great.

The fingerprint issue was resolved by installing the 3 "Dell Access" software packs and NOT installing ControlVault.

    /thread.

I work at a company that just ordered a lot of e6520's. They came with Vista but we reimaged them with Windows 7. We are getting the same problems with the Fingerprint reader. Downside is that our image has the ControlVault software on it so its getting the software. Did either of you figure out how to uninstall the ControlVault? I wanted to try loading the three you said.

(I see the software for the reader, i see the controlvault software in device manager, but when I get to the point of enrolling a fingerprint, it tells me there isn't a reader.)

Any help is appreciated! I'm going on my third day of sitting on support calls with Dell and even they haven't helped!

    Resolution: Reinstall Windows.

    Install in this order:

1st: Data Protection | Access — Driver Package
2nd: Data Protection | Access – Middleware Package
3rd: Data Protection | Access – Application Package

DO NOT INSTALL DELL CONTROLVAULT SOFTWARE

Thanks for your help! I am two weeks into support calls now. They still have come up with nothing... They think it's something to do with our using sysprep. I installed windows 7 from scratch and all drivers and got it to work. Now my goal is to get it to work on a notebook that I have brought a sysprepped image back to. I've tried installing them in the order you mentioned (no ControlVault) and still no luck.
