So I purchased an M4600 from eBay, that was supposed to be new, but opened with:

    I7-2820QM
    8GB 1600MHz
    120GB SSD + 500GB 7200RPM
    Quadro 2000M
    IPS
    Two batteries (97WH)
    Dock
    Centino Ultimate
    MS Office SBE
    Pro Support
    etc...

I bought it for $2600. However, when I received it, all was as described except it had an FHD WLED display (!!!) This was deeply disappointing to me as I was fixated on an IPS display (HP DC2 or Dell PC) So I called up the seller, he said he felt bad and that he had instructed their IS department to order 'the RBGLED display' and he was under the impression that was what was ordered. He then agreed to refund me $600. At the behest of my wife, and seeing as it is a pretty nice machine I decided to take the deal and he refunded me. Did I do ok?

thats not bad for the specs! especially with the 128gb ssd..... i wouldnt be too upset about it unless you really needed the RGBLED display for work purposes. i'd have snapped it up for that price....

Depends on the SSD but man the whole point of that M4600 is the RGBLED IPS display.

it should be the samsung SSD, seeing that it has 2 drives i assume the 128gb was mSATA

Yes, the SSD is the Dell mSATA drive coupled with the 500/7200 drive. I'm still considering how important an IPS display is to me. Truthfully it's a difficult decision.

The fact you get significantly higher color gamut over a standard WLED display and IPS? Only wish it was 16:10, we'd have a real winnar.

i dont think Tsunade_Hime has seen the dell WLED on the M4600. its really a class above most other displays. there was another thread recently where someone posted pics and viewing angles and a lot of the responses were of surprise that the viewing angles etc were so good.

i mean im not saying that the RGBLED display isnt good, but lets face it, for $600 bucks you can buy another entire laptop, or a desktop IPS monitor then you have 2 displays.

Sure. The seller was: 'adv_wireless' but I believe it was a one off.

So I purchased a spec'd out M4600 and got it for a good deal. As I explained in my previous post, I thought I was buying an M4600 with IPS. It however turned out it didn't have it so the seller issued a generous refund. The display on this WLED M4600 is beautiful, and outside of my Cinema HD display is the best I've seen.

So, is Dell's PremierColor display as good as Apple's Cinema HD displays? I ask because I wonder if the laptop form factor somehow compromises IPS on laptops. Now, assuming it is as good as the Cinema HD I'd probably like to make a trade for an EliteBook / Precision that has IPS.

What do you think the likelihood is that someone would trade their well-spec'd last gen Precision w/ IPS for a well-spec'd 5 hour old current model?
