yeah im so annoyed by this company right now. instead of pushing out useless bios updates they should solve the main problems first.
i asked them to change my display. but they said, the wouldnt have any informations about the IDLE problem in connection with the display. i send them the link to this thread and they wanted to change my graphic card although i was asking for a display change and told them, that my graphic card, motherbord and fan was changed already in the first repair, but it couldnt solve anything...thx a lot for nothing.. i bet, the engineers dont even know about this problem, or they just dont care.

I can't believe how much the M4600 with ATI Firepro sucks down the battery. I was recently on a flight with my son, who has a loaded W520. We were both watching movies off the hard drive, starting with fully charged batteries. I had the power settings all the way down and my M4600 went dead long before the W520. This thing is a heater!

I think that they are seeing the AMD users as relatively lower end. Because all the hardcore engineers truly need nvidia for all the optimization and professional compatibility, the only people who would opt for AMD are the ones in more casual environment. But this is my thought on reason why dell might not be so responsive.

But it is no surprise neither. Who would buy 3000m or 4000M if AMD had equal battery life? the raw performance is actually almost as good as the 5010M! I think it is a combination of technicality and marketing.

At least with the M4600, the 3000M and 4000M are/were not offered and the M5950 is better than the 1000M and 2000M in most ways...

I think it is kind of short sided to look at your particular model laptop and claim that to be all that is holy. Just my $.02. I have a M4600 that was company purchased so I don't really mind either way.

Actually you are right the AMD chip can actually perform as good as 2000M with gaming.

I think that the gpu line for the M6600 is similar to that of the M4600. For both models AMD has raw performance similar to the high end nvidia chip offered (M5950 vs. 2000M, M8900 vs 4000/5010M), but in both cases with much worse battery life.

I owned a M4600 with 2000M before so I was closely following which gpu to opt out for. I ended up getting one with the right battery and power. after all, 15inch is small enough to be portable.
