So I have been having a problem with my vostro and vista while running on battery power. Basically every once in awhile the computer will just freeze with a bunch of lines on the screen.

Decided to call dell since its under warranty and they came to the conclusion that it has something to do with the mother board and the battery/power supply.

Anyway, they are sending a box so that I can send it into them. Few questions, how long do you think repairs will take and how long until I have the computer back? What are the chances they just send me a new replacement instead of replacing the mother board/ power supply?

    Thanks

also, is it ok to leave the Hard drive in the notebook that i am sending back? there is not personal data or passwords etc on the notebook so there is no issue there. just wondering if i am supposed to leave the hard drive in or not.

I would leave the hard disk installed, especially on the off chance that they replace your computer and want the drive back.

I would, however, make sure to back up EVERYTHING -- tech support has been known to format disks sometimes for what seems to be the sheer hell of it.

As far as repair vs. replacement, I have no idea.
