I've read lots of the threads on this forum and am close to installing XP on my e6500. I used nLite to slipstream a SATA driver into windows xp sp3. I've done that with two different driver files, but each time, when the install says, "Starting Windows", I get BSOD that states, my computer is being protected from damage.

If I switch from IRRT to AHCI in Bios, the computer will not boot from the CD nor from the HD.

I'm sure what I am trying to do has been done 100's of times. But I cannot determine which .inf driver file should be slipstreamed and I can't seem to find a post that states the file name. Would someone help me with that?

    Thank you.
    Frank

Why don't you just install in ATA mode, install the Matrix drivers in Windows, and then switch to AHCI mode? Is there a specific reason you want to use IRRT?

    Thanks,

I have no reason to use IRRT. However, if I choose ATA or AHCI instead of IRRT, The computer will not boot. It won't boot with the XP CD nor will it boot from the HD. It goes into "Startup Repair" mode. From what you are saying, that isn't normal. It boots from the HD and the CD just fine when IRRT is selected.

I assume the Intel Matrix drivers include drivers for the Intel 45 Express chipset used in the e6500(?) Is there anyway to slipstream those drivers into the XP install and leave the BIOS configured for IRRT? My e6500 just won't boot with anything but IRRT. I don't know how to get around that.

    Thanks for your time,
    Frank

Why are you trying to boot from the disk if you're trying to install XP?

Try switching to ATA mode, loading your XP CD, and then pressing F12 during boot. That should get you to the boot menu from which you can boot from your XP CD and install the OS.

If you can't get to the boot menu, then you've really got a problem...
