Latitude D510 audio input problem

Hello...

Stuck with a problem on audio input:

Running various mics through an outboard mixer into the audio input jack... the only time the sound input is detectable is when it is recorded in Sound Recorder.

Device is SIGMA TEL C-Major.

Audio output is working properly except for the input issue - I should be able to monitor live during audio input....
