my wife has a latitude d600 that is not powering on. i tried a 2nd charger and it did the same thing. when it's plugged in, the battery icon is lit, and when you go and press power, the battery light shuts off. the laptop never powers on. is this something common with the d600? and if so, are there any cheap fixes i can do myself? i am relatively handy when it comes to computers, im not hesitant to do stuff like that.

Take out the battery and see if that changes anything. Also, try using it on battery power.

Looks like some sort of motherboard failure then, probably not worth it to fix unless it's the DC jack getting loose.

    I used to buy D600's off-lease and repair/refurbish them.

I can almost always get them to power on though by pressing down REALLY HARD on the power button.

There is a small circuit-board under the power buttons that's held in by two screws, you can try replacing that as often times the board seems to develop small cracks in it. I'm sure you can find them cheaply on eBay. You can get to it by just removing that top trim piece, very easy to remove and replace.

I have one right now that the power light under the button, and the caps-lock, num-lock, etc lights don't light up unless you are putting pressure on the trim piece, and you have to press really hard to get it to power on. This seems to work in about 90% of laptops I get in that are won't power on immediately, but you say the battery light disappears so I'm not entirely sure this is the issue, hopefully it helps though.

Also if you have a dock for it, try plugging that into the laptop and pressing the power button on that.

tmaxx, pressing down hard didn't work. when you say you repaired/refurbed them, what kind of issues did you more commonly run into? i dont know if its a dc jack issue, since even if there's a problem, it should be able to run off a charged battery. the light stays on if i don't touch it, probably charging the battery.
