A friend of mine has a Latitude D620, which he uses on his wireless network.

When running from battery only, the wireless works and performs fine.

When running from the mains adaptor, randomly, the system will state the wireless card is disconnected, physically. It cant even be seen in device manager. You then have to switch the system off and let it 'cool down' to get it to detect the wireless card.

Why would this be?? Could it be the power adaptor at fault? But why would a power adaptor conflict with a wireless card?!

    Random ideas:

    o Reseat the card.

o Review BIOS settings. Update the BIOS.

o Review Windows power profiles. Look for some weird setting for when on AC power.

    o Update the wlan driver.

o Try a different AC adapter, if handy.

o Try cooling the laptop when on AC power to see if the wlan dropout is temp related.

o Call Dell. Hardware disappearing from Device Manager may suggest a hardware fault.

I've tried reseating the card etc - no difference.
Its just strange that it runs fine when on battery!

Ive just received a new wireless card, and I also have a spare AC Adaptor - so I will try them next.......
