I received a brand new E4300 latitude notebook from my office. The overall experience with the system has been great with one exception. Couple of weeks after I received the system, I decided to play a DVD while traveling. The Cyberlink Powerdvd DX application launch showing the playback controls. The audio started to play throught the speakers, but the video never came up. I thought that maybe there was something wrong with the DVD itself (dirty, scratched etc..). Once I returned home I tried different DVD's with the same issue. Incidentally the same problem shows up when using Windows Media Player (hear the audio, but no video).

So far the only video playback application that shows both the video and audio is an app called Media Player Classic. Unfortunately, the application is very basic.

Any help or comments will be greatly appreciated.

Media Player Classic is actually a full featured application and it's much better than WMP or PowerDVD. You should installed K-Lite Mega codec pack along with MPC. You will be able to play any video format out there.

You problem is normally caused by corrupted codecs and/or problems with the video renderer.

Thank you for the feedback. I actually downloaded K-lite codec pack (that's is how I ended up with MPC), and so far it is the only program that works. I did re-install Powerdvd, but the problem persists. Talking to Dell, they suggested to re-install Windows XP, which seems a bit drastic to me considering a dvd player program works, and Powerdvd is a third party program.

How can I fix the video codecs for Powerdvd and WMP?

I don't know about power DVD, but WMP just uses whatever codecs that got installed from your K-Lite Codec Pack.

Thanks again. I may run a "fix" of Windows XP and see if that will solve the problem.
