I've never used or installed Ubuntu before and just want to make sure that everything will work correctly with a regular install, or will I have to hunt for Linux drivers on Dell's website?

I wanted to try a Windows 7 Ultimate / Ubuntu 10.10 dual boot setup.

Also, once 10.10 is out of RC status, can I upgrade to the latest version without destroying my dual boot setup?

I am dual booting win7 64 bit professional with ubuntu and it works well out of the box, everything just works!

The only real problem (I'm being pretty picky here) was that the ALPS touchpad in the e4310 is not recognized as a touchpad but instead as a PS/2 Mouse and none of the touchpad settings work. It works for normal pointing and clicking (including tap to click) but no scrolling out of the box. This is a known bug and there is a workaround where you patch the drivers to restore vertical scrolling functionality. Go here to see the bug report and workaround:https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/550625/+index?comments=all

The windows installer for Ubuntu (wubi) makes things stupid simple for a first time install, I installed it on a whim to see if I liked the 10.10 release at 2:30am to give you an idea of how easy it was... In retrospect I'd probably skip wubi if you're comfortable enough with bootloaders etc since you end up with having to go through two boot managers to boot ubuntu.

Let me know if you need any help...
