I've been zapped by my 6420 numerous times when plugged at work, haven't had that issue as of yet.

Isolated cases can still be software or hardware. Also, I'm not sure outlet uses the standard factory image when they reinstall these units, so there is still the possibility of something screwy with the install.

Otherwise, if it's not software, then it's probably hardware. The next step would be another LCD, seeing how mainboard and cable have already been replaced.

Can't be, I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit the moment I got the laptop. It originally shipped with Professional 32 Bit.

Seems pretty unlikely to fix anything seeing as others on the Dell forum pretty much had every component swapped out without a fix. That said, a tech came out to me today to change the screen... The only problem was that Dell sent him a 13.3" 720P screen... Neither the right resolution nor size. Probably an E6320 LCD.

The screen was replaced today. The old one was an AU Optronics panel and this is the better LG panel. Viewing angles are slightly better and subjectively the colours look better.

No sign of the issue yet... that said it's intermittent and it's only been a couple of hours since the swap.

    Update:
The issue occurred again for the first time eight days after the swap :(
