Hello guys, my dad gave me his old e6400 as his job paid him a brand new hp elitebook with all the bells and whistles, after checking my new toy, I found out that the battery if pretty much dead. The bios reports that it's damaged and Ubuntu says it can only hold 25% of the original charge... And it only lasts 20 minutes  . Since it has been bought only a year ago and that there is 2 years left on the warranty, can I just call Dell and ask them to send me a new battery? I've never seen a battery lose 80% of its capacity in a year....:(

As I recall, most of Dell's warranties are only applicable to batteries for the first year, even under CompleteCare, unless the "Extended Battery Service" option was purchased. So it really depends if you are under or over that first year.

Dell specs 1 year lifetime so I doubt a warranty exists. I'm in same boat... see my post here at bottom.

2009.I've just got off the phone with them. It's 11 days out of warranty, there is nothing they can do... That is insane.

Time to get your dad to buy a new battery since he should have read the warranty conditions. You can find genuine Dell batteries on ebay that cost less than buying from Dell.
