I have also had very few problems. I have some DVD/E-SATA problems that I think are caused by buggy drivers and I am not very satisfied with the ControlPoint suite. Other than that my machine works fine.

I have reinstalled Windows XP from scratch and it reduced the boot and shutdown time considerably. I have only installed the System Manager part of the ControlPoint suite and that also helped to make the machine faster.

I don't know... that is what I was told. And my Windows Experience Index increase, and I can enable PhysiX too.
From 3.0 for Aero to 3.3
From 4.5 for gaming to 4.7

Once I get my 4th machine (4th time the charm :)) I will have more time to execute real benchmarks.

Out of curiosity, I timed my E6400 boot time. It's a P8400, 4GB RAM, 120 GB 7200 RPM HDD, 1440*900 LCD, nVidia graphics, Vista Business, no fingerprint reader, no security hardware active and a USB wireless mouse receiver connected. From power button press to logon screen, it takes 44 seconds. When resuming from hibernation, the time to logon screen is roughly 25 seconds.

How long does your computer take? Do others care to post theirs too?

    Edit : It's Vista Business 32 bit.

I have Vista 64-bit (because I enjoy using all of my 4GB of RAM without slow down, and unlock the full speed of my CPU and allow to run 64-bit applications, and a more polished Vista), I think mine is a few second faster. But that is probably due that I have the whole OS on 64-bit rather than 32-bit.

The only difference is that I have a slower HDD at 5 200 RPM.

    [edit]
I calculated, from Vista pre-boot (before you see the loading screen of Vista fade-in, right after Dell Boot logo) to the password screen, it takes 31sec. Loading my account takes 4sec. Last hard drive defrag was 2 weeks ago.

31 seconds from power button press to logon screen

E6400, P8600, 2GB RAM, 160GB 7200 RPM HDD, 1280x800 LCD, Intel Graphics, Windows XP Professional 32-bit, own installation without security drivers.

For a 7200RPM shouldn't it load faster than my Vista machine?!?! I'll be surprised it's because I have Vista 64-bit. But so far, that what is being be suggested.

So is anyone going to install the official beta of Win7 when it comes out next month?

I'm thinking of doing this, so I'm keeping the content on my lappy to a minimum.

From what I've heard and from self experience, Vista (64-bit in particular) loads heaps slower.

I will be installing and at least playing with the offical beta of Win7 when it is out. I have already tried out the M3 build.

I'll likely wait until the release before I use it as my primary OS, simply because reformatting will be a pain when it is launched, which is predicted to be April.

The only thing that didn't install in Win7 M3 were the Intel Matrix Storage Manager, which no doubt will be updated.
