Thanks GKDesigns. A good aopproach. I did get them to just about throw in the $200 docking station, so that is at least something pretty good. And I got free shipping but the 3-5 day kind... And I blew it by getting the RAM from them, but that was just my stupidity, so I must accept full responsibility for that, as I knew better. So, all in all, if it comes, and works, I will be totally happy :)

I don't know about this. Display Port is more advance than HDMI, it's the version above HDMI however without the royalty fees. By looking at wikipedia I see no limitation on the refresh rate, so I guess not. Most probably the limitation would be on the video card. Nvidia video card should not have any issues, as well I trust nvidia, but don't take that as a fact, because it has no ground (I have no personally tried it as I don't' have any Display port devices.)

If HDMI supports it, than Display Port should support it as it's just a version above it. They could have called HDMI 1.2 (ignoring the older version of Display) if they really wanted.

So far so good; keyboard is nice, machine is quiet, display is good. The speakers are not as bad as I expected (I use them mainly for audiobooks, not music).

Battery life is not clear to me yet. It's certainly a lot longer than my T61s. I can't really tell since I have the battery slice, and I only ran down about three hours worth - so the extrapolation to true life is probably inaccurate.

I am a little confused about the way the machine uses the batteries. While I was running on batteries for a few hours, the battery gauge indicated that both batteries were discharging - as opposed to what I expected which would have been the secondary discharging and the primary not discharging. Fair enough. But when I plugged the AC back in, the battery gauge indicated the primary was 100% and the secondary was charging, and had been run down further than when the machine was on batteries. This is actually what I expected had I not seen what the gauge indicated while on batteries. I suppose that will get sorted out.

I lost quite a bit of time trying to install a new application suite which would in theory have been very nice, but which doesn't play nice with a 64 bit OS, and caused massive slowdown all over the machine. It even took a long time to uninstall that disaster. But no harm done, and I have installed a less integrated set which, although still 32 bit, don't make trouble (I've had them on the T61s already).

I'm going to get things stable before I start installing my primary applications (which involve licensing and activation so I try and avoid putting them on a machine that I might have to reinstall the OS on, etc.). But so far, the machine is very good.

One thing I am mildly interested in, is whether I will care that I got the integrated GPU; in theory I will be fine since I don't game or do 3D graphics. I haven't played a DVD yet.

Yea battery life expediency isn't great. for me it says 5-6 hours, but I stretch it to almost 9 hours with my 9cell battery, doing Word.

What application is that? Did you look for a patch on the web site. Sometimes a company has a special patch un-released yet, you can ask for that. There is NO REASON why an application won't work fine under Vista 64-bit. It's probably terribly programed by idiots, and should not be used. You should discourage bad programmers. Look for an alternative. If you can share the name of the application we might know an alternative or any fix to make it all work nicely for you. Did you try Vista compatibility mode. Unlike XP thing, this one actually works as it performs the translation. Set your application to run as if it was under Windows XP, see if that works. To do this, right-click on the shortcut of the program, select Properties. On the panel that will appear look under compatibility. Set the program to run as Admin and under Windows XP.

The Intel integrated GPU 4500 (which you have), is equivalent to the Geforce 7300M from Nvidia. Meaning it should handle Aero at 1600x1200 fine, and should play HD movies fine (maybe not 1080p perfectly super ultra smoothly, but close). For reference, the Quadro 160NVS using the latest geforce drivers will allow you to play FarCry2 smoothly at 1280x800 with minimum (with some features on medium). And FryCry2 is pretty demanding game.

Keyboard backlight fading in/out is a great idea. Maybe a BIOS update is enough to add that feature...

The keyboard backlight does fade off but not on. If it doesn't in yours, it may have to do with the BIOS version.

You can use the monitoring page of RMClock to see a graph. Select mobile CPU on the advanced settings page so that it gets the right voltages.

Is your selected power profile a Performance on Demand or a Maximum Performance setting?
