    Click on the Computer icon, right click the hdd or dvd drive and select Properties and then the Hardware tab.

    WDC = Western Digital
    ST... = Seagate

    I've got sort of a strange issue with my E6400--when first dragging a window around or scrolling up or down a webpage (by dragging the slidebar) I get some lag...BUT, after I scroll up and down repeatedly on the same page it doesn't "lag behind". Same thing with dragging around a window that isn't maximized. It's sort of a "smooth lag" where the amount its lagging behind is always consistent. But after repeatedly the moving of a window or scrolling up or down a webpage it is up to speed or what it should be like within 1-2 seconds. I'm probably not explaining this very well. :eek:

    I'm not maxing out my CPU or RAM at all when I'm performing these actions.

    At first I thought it was the chipset driver as I had forgot to install that. I also updated my BIOS from A09 to A11. I then installed the Intel matrix driver. Finally, I thought it could be an issue with the 185.20 driver so I went back to the original Dell NVIDIA. But all of this didn't change anything. Any ideas? The only thing I can think of is it could be the touchpad/mouse driver from Dell (which I need for side scrolling with the touchpad).

    I installed the new Intel MSM driver today and I too have noticed the reduced disk activity since. As for latency, it's 10 ms but it was this even on the 8.6.x driver. The sound isn't any worse and I find it acceptable but not very good.

    Just after installation, the sound was a bit choppy but I've devised a method to deal with that : every time I install a network adapter driver, the chipset driver or the IMSM driver, I reinstall the IDT audio driver afterwards. This usually works for me.

    On another note, I'm a bit surprised that a more recent driver than that's available on the Intel site has been issued by Dell. But I don't really care so long as it works as it should.

    My computer suffers from the same symptoms too. I think this has to do with the GPU. Mine is a Nvidia. But, if yours is an Intel GPU, then I must conclude that the problem is with Vista Aero.

    Hmm... funny how something as easy as that could fix the installation problem. Didn't realize it, so thanks!

    I have no trouble here listening to WMP play a music CD while watching smooth soccer highlights on YouTube. Hmm...

    OK, another test... WMP playing a music CD, YouTube soccer highlights running in TWO IE7 windows (not tabs), F-Prot Antivirus scanning my hard drive, and Webcam Central recording me at the highest resolution scratching my head wondering what is so horrid about DPC latency. All looked and sounded smooth to me.

    Can anyone with a t9400 cpu check your idle temp and load temp for me? I noticed that mine is showing as 35c for idle. That seems a bit high for this cpu and I don't even want to test the load temp just yet. Thanks in advance. Forgot to mention that I used the latest version of coretemp.

    35c idle isn't bad at all.

    I'll be here tomorrow with my notes on running Windows 7 on my
    E6400.

    Thanks SpeedMods. I thought these new cpus should be under 30c at idle.
