Make sure you have the power connector plug pushed in properly. The centre pin carries a signal which indicates the type of PSU. I used to have a problem with my E6400 not performing properly when connected to the 65W travel PSU but Dell realised the error of their ways and fixed that in one of the BIOS updates.

Yes. I also see this from time to time. I have the same OS, matrix storage and BIOS versions and I running AHCI. I suspect the matrix storage since that is still immature software.

Hmmm, come to thing of it, you are correct. I recall one of my home system (AMD Athlon XP 2500+, Nfoce 2, Vista 32-bit (as I can't put 64-bit due to the CPU)) had the same issue. But on my 4 other Vista 64-bit system (including my laptop), and my friends don't have this issue.

Well this is something that doesn't surprise me at all, I mean considering that Vista 32-bit was made in less than a year (or it sure does feel like it, when I compare Vista 32 and 64 side by side). And also, I know for a fact that most issues talked about on Vista, only affected the 32-bit and not the 64-bit version of the OS.

No, I did not install any virtual drives. I have the PLDS-DU-8A2S drive and installed Nero 7. I can't imagine that software causing the issue. As I said, it happens only randomly and I can make it reappear by simply removing it via the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the taskbar. Very odd. Perhaps like John said they'll fix it in the next release of the Matrix driver. Thanks.

Yes you did install a virtual drive. Nero comes with one. Again, it is NOT the software that explain the issue you are having, it just explain the second optical drive with random charters.

Try this for your disappearing drive. this for XP soo make sure you create a restoration point, as we don't want any BSOD's.
    1- Make a restore point
2- Follow what to do here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

Wow, I can't believe this thread is up and still going. I got my E6400 back in October and things have been fine. But today the built-in mic stopped working. The audio output is fine, both through the PC speaker and the external speakers I got. But the mic has stopped.

It doesn't work regardless of whether the external speakers are plugged in. Also, I checked the device manager, no problems, and of course the audio volume settings. Everything looks okay. Anyone have any suggestions?

When my screen was replaced I got the chance to see where the mic is. It should be fairly simple to replace, if it comes to that.

Might that BIOS update be A11? I reinstalled ControlPoint System Manager twice and that was no help, but after installing A11 and reinstalling once more, the battery started charging.
