Soldered to the motherboard. You can purchase a PCMCIA or Express card, but I'm not sure on the quality of these cards (never used one).

Well, mine shipped yesterday according to DHL. It is supposed to be here
(Texas) tomorrow, so I am ecstatic. I cannot wait for it since this will be my first custom laptop. Anyhow, you all reckon there is a way to customize the speakers? If the speakers are terrible (as seems to be the perception on here), then I will buy two of the best 1" speakers money can buy and install them on my E6400. Anyone object?

(That is ONLY considering I am not happy with the sound quality I get with my E6400)

your going to need some soldering skills :) Only thing is it might be a bit hard to get to the speakers without voiding the warranty. If its no big deal for you, just unscrew the whole chassis in two and get to work. its definately possible.

There is a problem with that idea, they aren't 1'' speakers.

For crying out loud guys... They are 1/2" tiny little speakers, not sure what everyone wants from these cheap little speakers... The Laptop has an audio out/headphone jack, I would utilize that and plug it into some real speakers...

What kind of FR would you suggest you are going to get out of a pair of 1/2" speakers... ?

for anyone that has ordered the machine with ultimate (yes, i know it is a waste) -- did it come with both x86 and x64 disks, or do I need to call them? I ordered it through EPP, not SMB, so I didn't have the option to specify.

I just got the 64-bit installation disc with mine. If they didn't offer seperate options when ordering though you might get both, I know that they generally don't offer the same options/have the same policies world-wide (I'm in Ireland, as the flag suggests).

As long as you got Business or Ultimate (or any version that has a 64bit counterpart), you can download a Vista disc off the internet and use your current key. I would be weary of torrents, though, as some may be boobie-trapped. When you activate Vista, it will fail. Call the automated support line, waste 10 minutes of your life punching in number, and it will validate. I didn't even have to talk to a real person.

Personally I would do Chevy suggested... find a power nerd and have him get you a copy and go through those steps...

i already have a legit license (and thus copy) of vista ultimate, which includes both x64 and x86 from being a beta tester for MS. the issue is that the key for 32 is not the same key for 64 -- will both keys be on the stickers on the machine? (note:: i do not know if there necessarily have to be different keys, only that i was provided with two discs, and two keys on shipping by ms, and was told i had only one legal copy)
