I don't think I did. I will surely do that. Thanks.

I only installed drivers (no connection manager) when I installed Vista, and I might have to update those drivers since I just installed the ones in the product CD. I will update drivers.

I didn't know there exists the event viewer. :) Thanks a lot for the tip. I will do that.

Oops .. it turned out to be that my BIOS version was A09. I have updated it and I'm updating other drivers as well so let's see if it fixes the problem.

    Thanks!

I tried to run Windows 7 64-bit on my E6400, but found a couple of the Dell drivers (Vista 64) would not install due to an OS check (ie - chipset). Has anyone had luck with getting Windows 7 installed with all hardware drivers?

You can run several of the drivers under compatibility mode set to "Vista".
Yes it is normal that some drivers don't work properly or doesn't install properly.
In my case, the touchpad is all wild with me, it keeps think I am dragging stuff when I am not, but it adjustable. Intel wireless 5100 drivers works, same for the LAN one. I think the SATA controller drivers did not install (Windows Experience Index is 2.1 on my laptop (5.3 under Vista) with be and the TPM chip, and smart card reader. Nvidia videocard drivers was installed using Windows Update (early beta drivers).

    Hey,

Can anyone please summarize the lag issues with the E6400? I keep reading about issues with the ATA/SATA drivers and other stuff...it's freaking me out.

    Thanks

I have no clue, I set my system to ACHI because I use my eSATA port a lot, and I see no lag.
My system is fast, Vista loads fast. I guess it oculd be a driver issue. I use Vista 64-bit.

While the DPC latency checker shows high latency (it drops when the optical drive is removed), there doesn't appear to be any real-life impact on performance (although I would still like to see this fixed). The culprit appears to be the Intel matrix storage driver / software. Some people relate high latency to audio drop-outs, but my audio is fine.

One last (<- lie) question before I bite the bullet and get a E6400. About the graphics card. I've decided... I'm really not going to play any games on this computer... I won't have time. I'd be lying to say I wouldn't play movies, and I know that I'll be doing some photo editing (as in, cropping, resizing, and perhaps some touch ups with brightness, contrast, and removing red-eye).
Is the Intel Graphics fine for this? I'd rather not sacrafice the battery life (and money) if I don't need to.

    Thanks

Intel's integrated video is just fine for this :).

I had the same thougts as you when I bought. I almost got an nvidia when I don't really need it. You'll save on fan noise, heat and battery life with the Intel. Even more, I find my LCD backlit samsung panel to be absolutely beatiful, very bright and colors are sharp. I do some photoshop/illustrator stuff and there is no problem. Some have even successfully ran older games on it...
