Buying it from newegg would save you like $50 anyway, but I'm not one to ask about the actual technical specifications necessary.

Sir_Punk, there've been some reports earlier in the year that if you used the Dell setting for power usage, it would way underclock your CPU and make your audio stutter like it was Windows 98 trying to use Photoshop while using winamp. From what I gather some patches fixed that anyway. As for me, I had some light stuttering, but it's mysteriously vanished.

Here's a new concern I have actually--does the e6400 have the capability to read Sony Memorycard sticks for digital cameras? I installed the Ricoh driver, and try to plug my stick into the slot below and to the right of the touchpad, every which way but it just wouldn't detect.

It doesn't read the Sony memory cards. AFAIK the reader only reads SD and SDHC cards.

LMAO!!! that was a good one. it just reminded me of the good ol'. LOL

well, I actually had that problem when I was on battery and on power saver. but wouldn't that be a vista problem since I am using the vista power managment?

I don't think it read sony mem sticks at all. but you can get those memory card readers for like $5 that will read a bunch of formats.

On the E6400, how far does the 9-cell battery extend beyond the back (compared to the 6-cell)?

It's a 9.5mm thick unit and not easy to find. Also, you need to have the Dell release mechanism.

The painful route may be the easiest in the long run.

According to the Dell specs, the 6 cell is 47mm (1.85") wide and the 9 cell is 69mm (2.70") wide. So the extra protrusion is 22mm / 0.85".

If you buy from Dell Canada, the DVD-ROM or CD-RW are $69.99 and the DVD-RW is $105.99- LINK

The upgrade at time of order is $4 for the DVD-ROM or CD-RW and $49 for the DVD-RW. How long ago did you place your order? How many days will it set things backif you cancel and re-order tomorrow? If you haven't asked for a supervisor, maybe you could try that....especially if it's alread in production, it's in their best interest to accomodate you!

It seems that after reinstalling the Ricoh driver my SD card reader is working properly. I am not even sure whether I had already installed it...

how can i figure out how much mine will weigh?

7200 rpm 250gb HD, led screen, 9-cell battery, backlit keyboard. although i think only the screen, battery and HDD (SSD vs reg) matter.

I am hoping for 5.5 lbs but i feel like itll be higher.

I think 5.5 to 5.6 is close. 6-Cell configurations usually run around 5.2 pounds, and the 9-Cell is about 0.4 pounds heavier. The difference between the HDD and SSD isn't that great and the difference between a standard and backlit keyboard is next to nothing. The LED screen should be lighter than the CCFL screen.
