    1) Nvidia doesn't support the 160m in the E6400.
2)To get rid of audio stuttering, download the broadcom 802.11 n drivers. They aren't official dell drivers. Google them. Also, download intel storage matrix.
    3) Remember to install windows Sp1.

We all have that but i don't know anyone who has got it to work. I think it is aimed at corporate users and it must be too much hassle to make the sensor an option to be installed during assembly, so they give to everyone.
Maybe. It is easy to get the bottom off and check the hardware. Read the Service Manual.
There's a long thread about crackling audio. Various driver updates seem to have fixed most of the problems. Go to the Dell support site and feed in your service tag in order to get a list of all the latest drivers relevant to your notebook.

This may be a dumb question but here it is anyway. Is it alright to put my notebook rear first inside the (messenger type) bag? The reason I ask is on my D620, the battery's in front but with the E6400, it sticks out at the back ( I have the 9 cell). I'm worried that the battery has to deal with the laptops' weight and I'm not sure if the battery was designed with that in mind especially on extended periods.

    Thanks in advance.

    yes:

it's the way it should be put/placed/stored on bags
    it will hold
the batt won't pressure the case - if that's what you mean

Actually, I'm more worried about the laptop pressuring the battery :D

    Thanks

I would hope that Dell designed for that loading condition. IIRC the 9-cell is heavier than I would have expected so there could be a stronger casing. Anyway, if something breaks then ask Dell to fix it.

That square plastic cover comes off. I had to use a small screwdriver to pry it off. You definitely have the 56K modem installed.

I was able to read the smart card in my office key, could only see a string of hex code.

I have seen this exact laptop used to program key cards for a small hotel in Amsterdam. They had a smart card writer reader sitting externally. But for a quick read they would tap the key on the icon on the palm rest and the program would show the room number or an error. They were of course using 3rd party software.

Success! I was able to use a flathead screwdriver to pull it out by prying from the bottom.. now I can fax my friend at his work. sweet.
Guys how do I get the lights on the battery to show up? THey are supposed to indicate how much charge is left but I tried everything.. pressing at it.. poking it.. rubbing it.. waving my hand over it.. speaking to it in a commanding voice. nothing makes it work
