Once you get your laptop, contact Dell and pressure them that you want Vista 64-bit disk, for you to install. They should send it for free.

FYI - I just called customer service on this issue and asked them for 64 Vista. They forwarded me to "tech support." I just said, "I thought with such a high end computer that it would come with 64 bit Vista. Do you mind sending me a copy." The Dell guy said, "hang on, let me check," and in ten seconds said, "yeah, no problem, what's your address?" No clue how long it will take, and haven't gotten an email from them but I assume it will come soon.

It's been there a few days and I have been using it.

No problems to report, but no obvious improvements either. Dell didn't change the fan rules, so the fan still goes to fast speed when the chipset / memory temperature reaches 50C.

I was in the car when I called, didn't get any names or confirmation. And no email either, so I'm a little concerned they just didn't follow up. Any way to call back to find out?

Also, the bigger question of: am I better off with XP-32 versus Vista 64. Don't do a ton with my laptop, no games or heavy lifting, and have used XP for years without much problem, and also use Vista at work with little difficulty. Wondering if I want to "upgrade" just for the sake of it or if there is any benefit, short or long term

Solid system: P9500, 4 gigs RAM, etc, so no problem handling vista.

I got a question concerning the TPM security chip / the embassy security center. It says there that I'm able to encrypt my hard drives or several folders with a program called "Document Manager". I can't find it.. so do I have to purchase it to be able to use it or can I get it free somewhere?

Log into Dell online and check your account. It should show that shipment if it has happened.

you are much better off with vista 64 (or honestly, with win7 RC 64). For starters, xp 32 won't allow you to use that 4 gigs.
