I updated to BIOS A14 via Windows and am now having trouble restarting the computer.

Basically, the power button flashes on/off intermittently as if it is trying to restart. However, unplugging the charger and replugging it back in (and doing nothing else) fixes the problem!

The only other thing was during the flash to BIOS A14 (from A12), it had trouble with a ME Firmware Image: ME Firmware Update Failed! (Error Code: 8725) Failed to receive last update status from the firmware.

The System ROM and keyboard ROM flashed okay.

    Any ideas what this means?

    remove batt
    unplug
    press power
    wait 5 sec
    put back batt
    plug
    power on
    boot to bios
restore / reset to default bios

Tried that. Didn't work. Still having trouble with the computer 'trying' to boot up with intermittent on/off LED flashing every few seconds.

The only way to get the computer to start is to remove the plug/battery and then start over.

I'm considering going for an E6400 and wondering how the performance of the offered 64 gig Mobility SSD is (maybe someone can tell the exact model number so I can look around) ?
If its not too great a drive, I might as well just get the one with the cheapest drive, and swap it out for an Intel X-25M myself.
Also, since I currently own an XPS M1330, wondering if I can use the AC adaptor from that one as a spare ?

i am fairly certain you are better off no matter what drive you want buying the cheapest and swapping in your own (and reselling the cheap one via ebay or something)

The price difference to get a 64 gig drive is around 140 USD, whereas I 'd have to pay close to 400 USD for an 80 gig Intel X25m.
(These are danish prices converted, stuff is a lot more expensive here than in the US)
I doubt I can get 250ish USD for a 320 gig 5400 rpm drive, so if the included one is decent I'd prefer that. I'm not looking for insane ssd performance, just something better than what a 5400 rpm drive will give, and I guess the offered one should provide that.

Thanks for the input though :)

it doesn't seem fair to compare the prices of two dissimilar drives to prove me wrong :) -- what is the cost of the 64 GB drive aftermarket? I would assume that minus whatever you could get for selling the cheapest drive is less than the cost of the upgrade.

Haha, well I wasn't trying to prove you wrong, not at all, just saying theres a rather steep difference, and I hope I'd be happy enough with the Dell provided ssd. I'm probably more trying to justify it for myself :p
I should probably just order it and get it over with !

Edit: doh, I just found some info about the drives in the ssd thread, which doesnt seem very reassuring, so I guess I'm gonna follow your advice veritas and install a drive myself, either Intel X25 or OCZ Vertex. Thanks for listening to my blabbering :)

Has anyone swapped out their CDRWDVD drive? Is it easy to do so?

I bought the stock version with my e6400 and want to upgrade to a DVDRW.

    Any recommendations?
