I like the monitor. It's not as bright as the MacBook Pro, but it suits me just fine none-the-less.

BTW, when Dell lists "Vista Business with media," do they mean that Media Center IS included with the OS? Interestingly, all the operating systems they offer under the E6400 config seem to have the addendum "with media."

Edit: Just called Dell. "With media" means that the disks for OS re-install are included. So...back to the drawing board. Do I really need Media Center? Hmmm...I don't watch TV much, but I would like to play DVD's from time to time, maybe hook up my laptop to my TV, as well as burn DVD's and play music off my laptop. Will Vista Business suffice in this regard?

Another bummer: The sales rep I spoke to said it is NOT possible to configure the laptop differently over the phone than online. So, I can't get rid of the backlit keyboard which I don't need and I can't drop the memory from 2 GB to 1 GB so I can buy my own cheap memory. Bottom line--I'm stuck with the online config. I guess I can drop down from the "productivity package" ($324 instant savings) to the basic package. However, some of you are claiming your sales rep offered you flexibility. Perhaps you can provide his/her name so I can get hooked up?

"With media" means you get the installation CDs.

You generally can't remove any options, but you can get some which aren't available on the website (some countries had the backlit keyboard removed for some time)

You can simply use Windows Media Player to play stuff. Windows Media Center does basically the same thing, but with different style menus.

This isn't really a problem because you can disable the keyboard light at least three different ways.

It is a problem for those that do not wish to pay an extra $50 for an option they won't use.

Um, no offense but I must be misunderstanding something. If it's an "option," that means you have a choice and can refuse to add it. If it's mandatory, you can manually enable/disable it when you get it.

Question for anyone: Is there any setting that I can change to make the E6400 boot by pressing spacebar or something on the keyboard? Have looked in the BIOS and can't seem to see anything...

Not quite sure what you are wanting to do. Pressing F12 a few times during the initial boot brings up the boot options menu.

What I mean is that I want to be able to turn on the E6400 by pressing spacebar (or some other keyboard key), rather than pressing the power button. That way, I can keep it closed while on my desk hooked up to external monitor, press space on connected keyboard to get going.

Quite often it is an option in the BIOS, however cannot seem to find it in E6400 BIOS. Just wanting to know whether I missed it, it isn't there (which is what I suspect), or there is another way to do this (without the E-Dock).
