my apologies if this has been posted on in this forum, but is there any known program out there that you can control the fans on the e6x00 computers? i8kfangui (at least on vistax64 with driver enforcement theoretically disabled) does not seem to work.

    i recieved my e6400 today.
it's the best device i've had so far, but still there is one thing that bothers me alot. my display lid does flex in the center. the surface seems to be somehow concave. is someone else having the same issues, is my lid a faulty one?

For anyone who is still having issues with audio skipping or stuttering - people on the dell community message board are suggesting disabling the "a" mode of the wireless card through device manager. I've done this and so far it seems to be OK.

I never touch a laptop (even the Lenovo thinkpad are guilty of this) where the screen doesn't flex on the center, unless there is a hinge there or is curved like the Dell studio (and even then). I say don't worry. I don't know about the concave.

the studdering problems can be solved by not installing as few dell software/drivers as absolutely possible, and installing everything you can from the maker directly (intel, etc.). installing all of the relevant intel drivers solves the issues, even using the pathetic IDT dell audio driver.

Mine looks completely flat. It flexes slightly under pressure but I can't push it enough to cause any ripples on the screen.

The only dell drivers I'm using are for the webcam, touchpad, bluetooth, and system software. Even with the intel drivers for matrix storage, x4500, and wifi I was still getting the audio stuttering. I have no idea why disabling the a band of the wifi card affects the audio, but I've been skip free for a few hours so I can't argue with the results.

I've spent the last 45 minutes searching the forums for how to install XP Pro on a Vista shipped e6400 and haven't had any luck. I understand I need to use nlite?? but not sure if there are a basic set of directions on what I need to actually do with BIOS or nlite to get XP Pro installed.

Can anyone point me to a post or directions online?

Currently, if I just put the XP Pro cd in the installation fails. With a little direction I can probably get things figured out. Thanks,

Why would you run XP? You only give you disadvantages.
You are complicating your life for a primitive 2001 out dated OS.

    Use Vista 64-bit.

I had one year of using Vista \932-bit) and have now gone back to XP and feel the better for the downgrade since there are fewer compatibility problems. 64-bit vista would introduce even more compatibility problems.

nLite enables you to get the drivers installed and upgrade XP to SP3 prior to installation. See this advice from Intel about installing the Matrix Storage driver. Or use F6 to install from floppy disc.

I think once you have followed the instructions for extracting the matrix storage drivers then nLite can use them. However, I took the easy route and got my E6400 with the XP downgrade pre-installed.
