    Hi all,

I have a Latitiude E6410, and I've bought a Dell 5540 WWAN card off eBay to fit into it. The 2 antennae were there already, so I connected them and slotted the card in and secured it down with the screw.

However, it won't show up in bios at all, and thus windows doesn't recognise it.

I'm using the latest Bios (A13), this was upgraded befre fitting the new card.

Any ideas? Do you think updating the bios again with the card fitted would help?

    Thanks,

    Gareth

Check to see if WWAN is enabled in the BIOS. Otherwise, you may have gotten a defective card.

    Hi Robin,

Yes WWAN definitely enabled in the bios, so a defective card is a possibility.

I'm going to see if I can try it in another laptop today, will let you know.

no joy, tied it in a Dell Vostro 3350 but it didn't show up in bios there either.

So, back to the seller I go :(

I also tried putting the WLAN card in the WWAN card slot, and it wasn't recognised either....

Should it be recognised? Are both slots just ordinary mPCIe slots?

I've tested Dell Wireless 1390 and 1395 WLAN cards in the WWAN slot before, but these are full-height cards. You can use a WLAN card in the WWAN slot, but the half-height WLAN card in the E6410 probably won't make contact unless you use a bracket.

ok, thanks for the info. Is that in a E6410 you tried this? Here is what I've tried so far:

Original Dell DW1501 Half-Height WLAN card = works in WLAN slot but not in WWAN slot.
Upgraded Intel WiFi Link 5300 Half-Height WLAN card = works in WLAN slot but not in WWAN slot.
Old Dell DW1490 Full Height WLAn card in WLAN slot = works in WLAN slot (held in with fingers) but not in WWAN slot.
DW5540 WWAN card (H039R) in WLAN slot = doesn't work in WWAN slot.

So if the WLAn cards should work in the WWAN slot, there's something wrong.

It was probably an E6400, since I don't usually use production systems for testing. It sounds like there's a problem with your WWAN slot, and if you're under warranty, you can get the motherboard replaced.

Have you tried these cards in the Vostro?

scrap the last post - i was only checking the bios. Put the DW1490 full height card back in the WWAN slot, booted into Windows and it's recognised in device manager, and works perfectly! But the bios still says nothing detected... weird!

The WWAN card doesn't show up in windows though :(
