As the subject line says my fairly new Latitude E6410 is waking from sleep when the lid is closed. I've noticed this only occurs after I've had the laptop in my bag after walking or riding the bus which is making me think the lid closed sensor is too sensitive and that jostling of the laptop is causing the sensor to think the lid has been opened. Is this a plausible theory? What sort of sensor is used on this machine to detect that the lid is open? I suppose the only solution is to just disable the lid controlling sleep on/off?

I never had problems like this with my D620...grumble, grumble.

We had similar problems with the new Mac Book Pro 15 and 17. Ended up being a setting under the bluetooth application allowing the machine to be woken up by a bluetooth device. This is put in place so that wireless keyboards and mice can wake the machine when the lid is closed and an external monitor is used.

Check your wireless and bluetooth settings to see what is allowed to wake up the machine. It may not be the lid at all!

Yes, I had already confirmed that both my NIC and wireless settings were set to not wake the computer. And I don't have a bluetooth module installed so it can't be that. Any other ideas?

Look in Event Viewer for some clues.

Great tip! This is what I found:

"Windows will execute '\Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\mcupdate_scheduled' scheduled task that requested waking the computer."

How the heck do I stop that from happening?

Okay so I wasn't sure if the measure I mentioned above was enough. I did a bit more poking around and found this thread:

Fix Windows Media Center Random Wake Up

Interestingly enough even though I had changed the setting from within Windows Media Center the option to wake for updates was still checked in the task scheduler. I unchecked it. I'll test to see if this fixes the issue.
