Basically, even though I am allowed to use my laptop however I want on my own time, I don't like the feeling of the office possibly spying on me.

So I'm going to remove the ODD and install my own, second HDD in it's place, and run either W7 or Linux off it. Of course, once I do my first boot into it, I'll disable my first HDD, to ensure no data gets put on there or erased accidentally...

Will this be fine for ensuring I'm safe and don't destroy my first drive?

Secondly, I'll either be ordering this:

    2nd Hard Drive Caddy DELL E6400, E6410, E6500, E6510 Modular Bay [DELL9-2BAY] - $48.95 : NewmodeUS, Hard Drive Caddys for Notebooks

or as suggested on this forum:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...tude-e-precision-m-series-second-2-5-hdd.html

I'm leaning toward the second one...will it fit my E6510 and hold a 2.5" drive? Will I be able to install and run Windows from it, or will it view it as a removable drive and not install to it?

THANKS SO MUCH!!! Any advice is appreciated!

Ok, ordered a caddy from ebay, it should arrive across the border on Wednesday.

What HDD now...I can't decide. I think I want one-platter, so that makes 320 GB seem like the best choice...

But, WD, Samsung, or Hitachi Travelstar? :(

I bought the newmodus caddy for my computer. I'd recommend a Western Digital Black drive...much more reliable...and FAST!

Thanks, that's just what I got, the advanced format 500GB one.

Now, do you know if there is a way for me to disable the 1st HDD in the BIOS when I go to install the OS on my new drive? Thanks!

^you can't 'disable' it, but you can set your other drive higher in the boot sequence. Just don't format the wrong drive...lol.

I just saw that you don't need to remove the whole thing for the HDD, just those screws. I just may do this...

I would rather be safe and get the 1st HDD out of the way . Last thing I would want is to "accidently format corporate HDD" ...
