I have 2 latitude laptops that have the same issue when reading sd cards. Both laptops can view files just fine and transfer small groups of files with no issue. however, when trying to transfer a large amount of files off the card, I get this message:

Error 0x80070079: The semaphore timeout period has expired.

My cards work fine on my T500 and HTPC... all computers run Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.

I replaced the card reader on the E6510 (before I tested the card on the E6410) and obviously that didn't fix the issue. I've reloaded this machine since I last had the issue and the problem is still here. I've run chkdsk /r on the cards.

I can't figure this out, why is the dell card reader not working?

    Solution:

    Lock the SD card...

    Any better way than this?

Might be compatibility issues between the card and card reader. Does a similar issue happen with other cards? I don't have a problem transferring lots of photos off SD cards with my E6410.
