Hey guys, I'm in the process of selling my M15x because I feel like I've under used it for its main purpose and I decided to go with the DELL work line for something I can use every day. I work in a IT department and I love the E6510's they just purchased, they are incredibly aesthetically pleasing and performance wise I think it's the laptop for me.

However, I caught eye of the Precision line up and I'd like the i7 840... The two systems I configured is a difference of 600 bucks and that's moderately big, but I want to make sure that if I spend the extra money it would make a difference.

My Alienware is fast... check the specs... I don't want to downgrade (too bad).

I just need something that can render 3d environments (I am majoring in games design)
Run every day applications fast (I'm putting my 128gb ssd in this so it should be no problem whatever I get)
    Play World of Warcraft well
    Use Adobe CS5 well
    Look gorgeous on my desk.

I'm planning to order one in the next 1-2 weeks and I will be calling to make the order, to help haggle.

Also, I can get accidental on these? I see the warranty options but all the names are confusing:confused:.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I own samples of both models. The M4500 is my daily driver.

The E6510 is a capable laptop. There are differences which can justify the higher cost of the M4500.

For the purposes you describe, the higher speed quad core CPU options and higher performance FX880/FX1800 graphics adapters on the M4500 are worth considering.

You can find processor and graphic adapter benchmarks here.

On my samples, the fan runs less frequently and/or at lower RPM's on the M4500's. This implies the M4500 heat removal system works better.

On my samples, the M4500 display colors are much brighter and more intense. The M4500 display viewing angles are way better. This is not to say that the E6510 display is bad when viewed straight-on. IMO, the M4500 displays are very good.

Since appearance is important to you, read up on how to protect the paint finish on the laptop when carrying it around in a case/backpack. Some owners use protective sleeves.

Dell's accidental insurance is called "Complete Care".

    Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for the input. I will see how much I get for my M15x and then I'll decide where to go from there... I don't think I can lose with either one, but with the E6510 I would have to upgrade sooner than the M4500
