This Latitude E6510 came with winXP installed. I have fresh installed win7 enterprise. I have been unable to install a Intel GMA driver, either from the drivers and utilities disk, or with a download from the Dell website. Only the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter is installed (from the win7 install disk), and that does not support features like extending the desktop to an external flat panel.

The downloaded driver installation seems to go OK, but at the end of the install, there is no explicit confirmation of success, and no prompt to reboot.
The drivers and utilities driver installation throws up an error early on, This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit. <OK>

Device Manager also reports three Other devices lacking, but I don't think they are related: PCI Serial Port, PCI Simple Communications Controller, and Unknown device.

    Any ideas?

Are you 100% sure that you have Intel and not nVidia graphics? (Entering your service tag into the Dell support site should give the system hardware configuration).

The problem devices may be AMT devices (under the chipset category on the Dell drivers site). These are lurking in the background although irrelevant to most users.

Yes, before I fresh installed win7, I screen captured Computer Mgmt - Device Mgr, and under display adapters it listed Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD.

OK. Did you install the Dell System Software Utility file (near the bottom of the E6510 download list)?
I think that this includes fixes such as the .INF file needed for the Intel chipset to be identified correctly (see here).

That is probably it. I did not follow any particular order. I will be sure to do that next time. I have since installed XP on this laptop, because I had to deliver it to the user right away. This user is better off with XP, anyway.

Don't forget the " have disk " method for installing drivers,
Especially gfx drivers. Works like a charm.
