    Hiya,

I have a Latitude XT which uses a 1.8" PATA/ZIF(?) hdd, and it's been getting increasingly noisy and slow. I backed up my stuff, but I'm expecting it to fail pretty soon. They've become pretty much impossible to find (in Canada) for a reasonable price.

What are my options? Also, I'm pretty lost on all the connector standards, I just know that the one this computer uses is super uncommon. Do I need an adapter, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

Just search for PATA ZIF hard drives on eBay or your shopping search place of choice... anything PATA ZIF should work. I'd definitely recommend an SSD, but there are, unfortunately, few to no modern SSDs that use PATA ZIF.

I think the best thing you can get is an Indilinx Barefoot based drive from RunCore. You might also be able to find some first-gen Samsungs or even the slightly faster Mtron drives of yesterday.

I'd say stay away from no-name brands (ie KingSpec) and ghetto ZIF-CF (or similar) solutions.
