    i already did that. dell doesnt have the driver, i even called them. pcidatabase comes up dry.

    Perhaps some "virtual" hardware. The "Control Point" Software from Dell installs some drivers, too.

    hmm thanks ill try that. the thing is that there is no 1394 device in the device manager. that pci device has to be the firewire functionality.

    i installed the driver you linked. no go.
    if anyone with the same computer can step forward and show me the driver. thats the only way, because there is no trace of it in pcidatabase or google

    Hm. No idea at the moment. Could you post the device ID taken from Windows device manager?
    Normally, I'd expect TI Firewire controllers being automagically detected and supported with Windows default drivers. :confused:
    Perhaps some Windows hickkup? have you already tried to uninstall this "unkown device" from device manager?

    You might also try Linux from a live CD (or USB drive) and see if Firewire works there.

    the dev_id for the first device is co3a, for the second- co3c. linux said that its a pcixx12 controller. vista should have 1394 ohci drivers though by default.:confused:
