I'm selling my laptop and I can't find the OS disks - but I'm not even sure if it came with any.

Do any other M4400 owners recall their laptop coming with them?

On a side note, did anyone else get their laptop without a plastic filler for the ExpressCard slot? I've got a crack over it since there's no support under that part of the palm rest.

Many new laptops don't give you recovery media, Dell is the only one that still does on occasion. Most of the time for like 3 dollars you can order physical discs. It's really hit or miss if your M4400 came with them.

The plastic filler may have its own part number? You can check what shipped with your Dell at support.dell.com, punch in your service tag and go to System Configuration.

    Thanks for answering.

Their Service Tag product finder has been down every time I've tried to use it. :)

Do you know where I need to contact to get the physical disks?

Is your original drive still intact and you didn't format anything? If so you might still be able to create recovery media. It reinstalls all original content (some people want that stuff).

If you can't make it or your recovery partition is hosed, then you can call up Dell IF you are still under warranty, and they will ship you the generic Dell Windows Vista/7/XP disc along with Drivers/Utilities disc. Now that will not recreate the recovery partition but will preactivate Windows for you. If not, they aren't horribly expensive, you can get them on Ebay for like 15-30 dollars.

Well I don't mind reinstalling the original content, I have an external HD where I save my important files.

And yes, I have the original drive and I never partitioned it.
However, I swapped Vista Ultimate to Win7 Pro. That changes it up a bit right? Perhaps I should be contacting Microsoft support for a physical disk?

The best case scenario would be having one of the OSes reinstalled on my M4400, and the other one in disk form that I can use for Boot Camp on my iMac.
I honestly don't care which one ends up in either computer.

Maybe I'll just buy a new one...

By the way, I'm getting the M4400's palm rest replaced. What's the difference between a grade A, B, and C part? Just build quality or is it some kind of manufacturer's keyword for features?

Oh wow, good thing I haven't bought it yet!

Nice to see you still hanging around stingray. :)

EDIT: Can anyone tell me what the difference is between these palm rests?
They have unique IDs but the features listed below them are the same:
    H028P: http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=8207
    DW001: http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=item&id=5793
    NU001: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Precision-M4400-Palmrest-Touchpad-NU001-A-/230456555283

Also, why do they not have the right speaker grill on them?
