I found this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-latitude-vostro-precision/444819-putting-refurbished-m4400-motherboard-latitude-e6500-worth.html, but it appears the OP did not pursue. And, I found another discussion where the OP tried to replace the screen case portion, but ran into troubles.

    Anyone have any updated information?

I love the red case of the e6500, and I detest the m4400 case. My m4400 is 1920x1200 dual CCFL, webcam, backlit KB.

I would like to put the m4400 in K836F bottom (or is it F616M?) and F006D top. Note sure what upper and lower bezel I need, but I thought I would see if it is even possible to use the above parts before I search further.

The bottom half will definitely work without any issue... not sure about the top. In the colored E6400s, the red and blue lid are LED only, but I'm not sure if this is also the case for colored E6500s.

Physical dimension of M4400 and E6500 is not exactly the same. I ever tried to replace the lcd case and it won't fit, and after minor modification the lcd cover refused to match the bottom case.

However, I do not know if the m4400 mainboard can fit nicely into e6500 bottom case. If it does, probably u can make the whole unit work. .

I remember reading your thread, but can't seem to find it again.

According to http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-latitude-vostro-precision/447386-e6500-screen-option.html , it was not offered, but I was thinking that if the bezel for a red lid fits on the black e6500 lid and the same lid can be used with the 1920x1200 2CCFL bezel, then the 2CCFL bezel will work on the red lid.

Look like X939R is the bezel for the e6500 with 2CCFL, now I just need to determine what lids it will mate with.

Hello... sorry to piggy back this thread but since it seemed a bit relevant...
I recently got an M4400 off ebay and all is fine, I like it but... can anyone tell me why the screen is SO FAT?

It's a 1920x1200 (which is nice obviously), I'm assuming it's a CCFL one since I can kinda see the glow at top and bottom. Maybe I have answered my own question, but my E6400 screen is so svelte and beautiful, the M4400 one kinda offends me :( it seems overly fat. Like they made it in the 80s and never updated it...

Having the m4400 screen open right now, it's fat because the screen is fat.

In fact, the 1920x1200 2CCFL screen is fat enough that it requires all of that cavity. The e6500 was not offered in red because the red lid is too shallow to hold the thick 2CCFL screen.

Thanks oldlaptop. I hardly ever see the laptop side on, but I have this stupid nagging feeling of hating the thickness of the screen. What can I say, I guess I'm a bit odd about stuff like that...

Can it be IPS screen? My M4400 screen is not thick because I chose only normal lcd.

For M4600 LCD, IPS screen is thicker than non-IPS screen.
