    Hello to everyone,

i just got my M4400 and from a first contact, i am very happy with it. i have a question about the WiFi Catcher.

it seems it does not recognize the wifi card (5300) although i am able to connect to the internet over wireless. when i press the button, a window that says radio is off appears.

Also in Dell Control Point it seems like there is no wifi connection in the DCP connection manager and all wifi related options are disabled. i can only see and use the dial up and ethernet connection in this software.

    any ideas?

    thank you all

Try reinstalling the drivers for the wireless card. Get the latest from the Intel website and see if that changes it.

    Hi LPTP-LVR,

thanks for the advice, however I tried installing the latest control point connection manager and the latest wireless lan driver but again it seems that the control point does not recognize the wireless adapter.
i am running winXP 64 bit. maybe there is an incompatibility issue or something?

    any other suggestions?

    thanks a lot

I wouldn't worry about it. Just use the Intel Proset Wireless for your wlan, DCP is pretty useless, i have none of the components installed and everything works fine on my system, except for the fingerprintreader.

I'd uninstall the DCP connection manager and go to the Intel site to download the latest driver (version 12. something) and application for the 5300 card.

i am starting to think the same.. one last think though. do you know how the wifi catcher is supposed to work when the computer is turned off? when i press the button and hold it, some lights (i think the power and bluetooth) start blinking and a blue light turns on, behind the catcher button. have you found any documentation on what this is supposed to mean?

    thanks for your time

I think the wificatcher has to be enabled in the bios for it to work. Also, you have to set dell controlpoint to manage wifi (windows does so by default) for it to work.
When it's off, the wificatcher light should start blinking if you press it. If it then just turns off, if did not find networks. If the light becomes solid (no flashes) then it has found at least 1 network.

    Thanks a lot

To start, the Connection manager has been buggy since launch. You'll definitely want to download the latest version, from here.

As for changing the power management, I'm actually clueless (I only use the Wifi catcher when the computer is off). Try asking it (you don't really need to specify that it's for ControlPoint, I think all software SHOULD need the same steps) in the Windows forum. I'm quite hardware knowledgeable, but know little about software. The software people are in the software forum :).

Same here, just don't know too much about DCP because i never installed it after doing a clean Vista install when i got the laptop. The only thing i kinda miss is the osd when adjusting brightness and volume.

Is Windows managing your wireless instead of Dell/Intel?
