Does anyone know, and in particular havoctex, if the Intel 310 Soda Creek is compatible with the precision 4600 ?

I guess the 4600 have a MINI-pcie connector (mini card) for a WWAN mini card or the 128gb ssd mini card available in the online configurator.

THe Intel 310 soda creek seems to have a msata connector, not a mini card connector, wich is not compatible at all even if they both have the same slot...

I'm planning on buying the intel 310 80go in order to put it inside the 4600, but I now have some doubts in it's compatibility, as it seems to have a lot of confusing between the msata and the mini-pcie connector....because of the same slot

And if it's not compatible, where can I find a mni-pcie SSD, like the SUPERTALENT Core Store MLC 128 Go, wich is a standars mini-pcie slot ????:(

That would be odd if they changed the configuration, several posts on newegg say they are using it in the M4500. Many notebooks use the WWAN slot, since you can have the usb pins and mSATA pins wired at the same time.

On a similar note, I noticed in a user picture of the insides of the M6600 and it has 4 minicard slots, 2 full 2 half. I see one half is wifi, another is "DWA" (?) for the fulls its one wwan and one "sata". I wonder how some of these are wired.

The interface is the same as a WWAN card, but if Dell didnt put in the IO controller like it did in the M4500 then the SSD wont work. The mSATA interface just converts the SATA interface into a pci-e slot. If there is no IO controller to interpret the data your system wont recognize the SSD.

The M4500 had a pci-e SSD option, AFAIK the M4600 does not. The SSD option seems to be of the 2.5" variety but I'm not certain as I don't have the privalige to play with one. If Dell never intended anyone to put an SSD in there, they wouldnt bother to put an IO controller in there and thus it wont work.

Hopefully someone will test this out soon, as I am very curious about this as well. Since there are multiple slots, I suggest if someone tests this out, they try the other slot if the 1st one doesn't work. It is unlikely Dell would put 2 IO controllers in there.

on the dell website you can configure it with a minipcie SSD up to 128gb along with a standard hard drive

The M4600 is not qualified to support this SSD, but with that said I see no reason why it would not work.

i dont suppose it is possible to elaborate more on what "criteria" we have to look for in selecting the minipci SSD? as in what to look at to make sure the M4600 supports it. i dont have the budget for one at the moment but maybe in a few months i'll be shopping for one
    thanks in advance

I actually did not know this. I bought one because it was supported in the M4500, and I figured that it would be supported in the M4600.

When my M4600 arrived yesterday I just opened the back and put the 80GB SSD in and it worked! Well almost. I had to change the SATA mode in BIOS from Raid On to ACHI (Or whatever that option is). The only problem I ran into is that I don't have a screw to hold the drive in. Does anyone know where I can get a screw?

The lock will be okay if I unscrew that? It doesn't need to stay screwed in?
