hmm, now this is interesting, wait for more feedback and then report to Dell support.

I updated to bios A03 and no difference. There is nothing mentioned about USB in A03 update anyway.

You might try disabling the power saving functions on the USB port. You might also try changing your power scheme. I get the feeling that maybe Windows is shutting down the USB port that just pulls power.

The Seagate external drives need to have both USB plugs attached to the computer for power. I have one of the older 250GB versions. I could get away with only having one plug on some computers. When I swapped out the 250GB 5400rpm drive for a 500GB 7200rpm drive, it will not work at all unless both plugs are in. It just beeps at you.

I have a Western Digital 3.5" external hard drive and USB 3.0 speeds seem to be limited by the actual drive itself. Usually around 100MB/s. With lots and lots of small files it is much slower - maybe 40MB/s.

My system is plugged in so the power scheme should be at max. How do I disable the power saving functions on the USB port? I'll give that a try.

Just got 2 USB 3.0 adapters for testing. Weird enough, the Patriot USB 3.0 stick can perform at USB3 speed with the adapter.
However, not everytime it is detected as USB 3.0; I would say about 50% only.
Once it is detected as USB 2.0, reconnect or unplug won't change the situation, only a reboot can help.

Compared to directly connected to M4600 with 0% success rate, the adapter could be useful.
I suspect the Patriot USB3 stick is the one giving problem. Since it is still under warranty I might as well send it back to vendor.

I'm not having any luck either. I don't think its your stick but I could be wrong. My flash drive is slow too.

The stick has been sent for 'warranty claim' and may take 1 month to come back. Not sure if the factory will replace the unit or just reject my claim.

USB 3.0 external hdd is working perfectly.
