    There's a useful review of USB 3.0 here. The NEC chipset is probably connected via a PCI Express lane which should provide more bandwidth than what you are seeing. However, the results in that review are better than what you are seeing. However, the results in this review (next to last column) are in the same range as yours.

    If you get more opportunity to test your HDD with other computers or other USB 3.0 devices with your computer then the bottleneck will become clearer.

    Just got confirmed by Aikimox who has HP 8740W in our forum and he got the same results as mine. I will check my HDD if I find another computer with usb 3.0 ports.
