yeah good luck trying to get 4 ram slots into a 15" form factor.

and 4KG total in your bag?!

sheesh! 4*2.2 is what 8.8 lbs? figure some small gagets and whatever else you need does not leave much for a laptop AND charger.

my old M90 is 10 lbs by itself!

    my take on the 17s...

I love the extra large screen and a FUL size 10 keypad is GREAT also dual HDD and 4 ram slots... cant go wrong, its not the best thing to lug around on a single strap bag but a backpack does fine for me. then again i never haul it more then 3-5 walking blocks and to add to that im also 6'1'' ~260 lbs if my laptop is an extra 5 lbs but also 2x the machine im okay with that!

KSNA it is WAY cheaper to upgrade yourself.
and ram upgrades require almost no skill

if your a bit more tech savie its also cheaper to upgrade your HDD yourself.

Looking at the prices Dell wants to charge at the moment, for the M4500 and M6500, there's no question. Two 2x4GB kits go for around $200 at newegg.

Of course the M4500 only has two slots so the only way to get 16GB ram on that is 2x8GB which is very expensive. Dell wants 4k for that option and I didn't find any 2x8GB ram on newegg, ram is not very plentiful at that density.

The M6500 has 4 memory slots but Dell wants $735 for the 4x4GB option, about 4 times what it would cost from a third party.

Keep in mind Dell doesn't warranty memory it doesn't sell.

If you're feeling free with your money you could always get the 4x8GB option for the M6500, only costs $8495.

Not difficult at all. Clevo's done it with their P150HM/P151HM1. Now the trick is convincing Dell to do it too...

The Elitebook 8540W (15.6 incher) with quads had 4 ram slots. I haven't seen relevant info on the upcoming 8560W yet...

Yes, the HP 8540w, Lenovo W510, Clevo's and a few other 15 inchers have 4 RAM slots. Shouldn't be a problem for Dell, IMHO.

    M6600 resolution is too weak,
M4600 FHD @ 15.6" is a bit strong. Sony F actually has very comortable resolution FHD @16.4".
I really don't know why are they messing up resolutions so much.
Apart from M6600, dell has no other FHD laptop. Vostro/Inspiron/XPS with 17.3" and 1600x900 they must be joking. The new machines with sandy bridge and discrete graphics are actually really good, apart from crappy displays.
They are actually increasing PPI on tablets and smart phones and decreasing on large displays. Where is the logic? They may be waiting so we all buy low-res laptops/displays and then will urge us to replace them with proper-res laptops/displays
