Could've had the move done by now using windows and been reporting good things back to us. I thought that was what you were doing. Push - Push.

My SSD isn't showing up under "My Computer" Currently I have it installed as a secondary drive to update drivers. The computer recognizes it but it doesn't show up as a second drive at all. Is there something wrong? Help?

hide empty drives in folders options - is it checked? - uncheck it.
has the new drive been initialized? any partitions created on it?
once this is done the default can be re-enabled.

Edit Addendum: It might be a good idea to find an affordable cloning package to move OS to SSD. I'm planning to create a step by step how-to for windows image restore. The only part that's missing is proving it and I'm tempted to do it myself. That would entail going in each direction - SSD to HDD and back and several backup images and one windows re-install in order to start because my folders are relocated and would have to break the OS.
Kind of a lot of work for zero benefit; Nope, it's not going happen.
Spend $30.00 or Clean-Image the drive.

    Edit for passersby/reference:
New or Uninitialized Disks/Drives by the very nature of not having any partitions with an assigned letter are hidden from view (excluded by default) in most areas of windows except in disk management where this option can be changed, not recommended. In an administrator account go to administrative tools, computer management, disk management. From there the entire layout and properties and tools are available.

Okay, I got the SSD showing up now and I'm currently using Norton Ghost to make a clone, though they call it a copy (same thing). But it looks like I might have a RAM issue after all since I ran a diagnostic and it gave me the same error from before again. I'm going to run a few more diagnostics after I copy my drive to the SSD to see if maybe it's just because the location of the RAM or just the computer acting weird.

If you want to test your RAM, Windows has a memory diagnostic utility that you can use. If that doesn't report any errors, you can also run memtest during the night and see if it reports any errors.

    Hi Guys,

This last Tuesday I installed Windows 8 on my M6600. At the same time I upgraded the Bios to v A12. Ever since then my laptop won't charge. It just says "plugged in, not charging".

It doesn't charge even if the laptop switched off and plugged in. I'ts been steady at 7% since Wednesday now. I have 2 chargers, one for my docking station and one for home. Neither of them works. I've tried pulling the battery, re-installing the Microsoft ACPI Battery drivers, everything i can think off.

    Any ideas?

You've installed Dell System Software and Dell ControlPoint System Manager?

    Hi,

Thanks, I've installed the Dell System Software, but it made no difference. ControlPoint System Manager cannot install, it gives me an 'Unknown Operating System" error.

Therein lies the problem to solve first.
Not sure about what was done earlier "re-installing the Microsoft ACPI Battery drivers", may try to unistall that then try reinstalling DCPSM.
I have no experience with W8 so I'm just relying on unstressed troubleshooting.

Edit 1: ACPI is complicated and may communicate with BIOS and DCPSM for different modes.

Edit 2: May want to query if other W8 users upgrade, fresh or clean installed. I learned, not long ago, not to make too many adjustments at the same time as the problems might be subtle and without notice until further along.

Okay, I need help. I've been following this How To Migrate Windows 7 to a Solid State Drive - How-To Geek but after I do align the partition on my SSD as they have it and I go to copy the drive it says I have to copy it to unallocated space, but the alignment step turns the unallocated part of the SSD to unformatted and so it wont copy to it. Am I missing a step or something?
