I have a "new" refurbished M6600 that has a problem when I put it in sleep mode the fan stays on. It seems to be coming from the right side which to me would indicate that it's the GPU fan. It has the Nvidia 3000M card by the way. I have looked in the BIOS (A06) and I would have thought there would've been some power settings for sleep states but couldn't find anything.

Is anyone else having this problem or does anyone have any ideas what might be causing it?

I contacted Dell support about it and they wanted to replace the motherboard but that seemed a bit excessive at this point so I wanted to do a bit more research before I resorted to that. Just in case Dell support was overlooking something.

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

I would write the problem on the "M6600 owners lounge", you have more chances that people see it.
On the other hand, why wasting your time in something that is Dell's fault? They are trying to help you changing the motherboard, and it won't cost them too much (if not they would do something else) and as you already have a refurbished one, you don't loose anything. If this is not the problem they'll have to continue investing.
It is also a way for them to see the problems and trying to invest more in having them fixed.

But on the other-other hand, if the problem happens to be a very easy one, maybe you get some help in the other forum. Another advice is putting something more descriptive like "M6600 fan keeps running on sleep mode" in teh title so that it attract those who have experienced a similar problem...

Thanks for the response. I wasn't really sure where to post this. If I continue to pursue this I'll move it to the "lounge".

I'm probably going to talk to Dell about it and get it fixed but was just hoping it wouldn't be a motherboard replacement. I've just heard a lot of horror stories where people's laptops are never quite the same after a mobo swap, especially for supposedly simple issues.

    Anyway, thanks again.
