M6700 screen input please - IPS helpful or not?

I am waiting for my M6700 to go from "In Production" to "Shipped".

My question involves whether I should (re)order my system with the IPS RGBLED FHD instead of the WLED FHD that I currently have on order/in production?

I do not play any games. Although I have used Autodesk for basic architectural design, Avid and Adobe Premiere Pro for basic video editing on educational documentary interviews, as well as applications of MATLAB for modeling views in philosophy of physics (very basic graphically though highly theoretical stuff involving the geometry of curved surfaces and representations of different initial conditions for cosmic inflation and quantum fluctuation - much of which can be done with not much more than linear algebra and hamiltonians, for instance).

I do not need or make use of elaborate, very detailed colors in my work on these matters. Most of the time I am writing documents with simple software such as MS Word. (Even with MATLAB, I do not use colors or advanced color applications to represent heavy work.)

My worry is that an IPS screen could simply be much easier on my eyes during basic work that does not (seem to?) make use of greater color gamut. I often work in front of the computer screen for more than 8 hours a day.

Are IPS RGB LED FHD screens much better for basic viewing than WLED FHD screens? Could they cause less eye strain, or could they make the screen viewing experience substantially better when not using greater color gamut?

I would appreciate any and all opinions/comments on these matters generally or my basic questions particularly.

Many thanks and good wishes to all.

I am also curious how much the M6700 IPS RGB LED FHD will tax my video card and CPU. Of course, this is context/application dependent, though I would really like to know how much (if at all worth talking about) the IPS screen puts extra wear and tear, so to speak, while just running the M6700 (say, using a word processor with no special functions).

However, my real question is whether the IPS screen will in any sense be easier on my eyes, whether the IPS screen will in anyone's experience/opinion, cause less eye strain when I need daily to work at the computer for hours and hours and hours. Please, could the great members of this forum help me out with comments on these two paragraphs and also the initial post above it?

Many thanks to anyone who can share relevant comments/opinions/experience and is willing to read this comment and the initial post that started it...Good wishes to all in any case.

All of the FHD display options will be an improvement over the M6300 screen. I think it still used CCFL backlighting and only got up to around 150 nits of brightness. After years of use, it is probably dimmer now.

The IPS screen gives you much deeper colors and more contrast between black and white. Browsing the web, you really will see colors just "pop" on sites. Movies and video are also very good.

Typing in Word is just like a normal screen. No extra wear and tear on the machine. You will see more contrast between the white background and black text. You will also get a white that is right at 6500K and very neutral. You can also move your head around and not have to worry about viewing angles with the IPS panel.

If the deeper colors ended up being a distraction to you, just go into the PremierColor controls and switch the screen to sRGB mode. This will make the screen look exactly like the WLED FHD screen. You have lots of options.

I have a M6700 with the WLED FHD panel. It looks great. It's bright and vivid, and the viewing angles are good for a TN panel.

Don't forget that if you order the M6700 with the IPS panel, you lose Optimus — the ability to switch over to the Intel integrated GPU when no graphic-intensive apps are running. The result is a halving of battery runtime.

Unless you do color-critical work, you really don't need the IPS panel.
