Recently my laptop starts to make a high frequency whining noise, almost constantly and rarely stopped.

I tried to locate the component which the noise was originated from, I can only figure out it's somewhere below the memory module, but there is no moving component there, so my biggest suspect is the fan, because if I put my ear to the back of the laptop, except the whining I also heard very minor "clicking" noise.

Another weird thing is, this noise only starts after Windows is loaded, not in BIOS or during booting, although the fan was running at those times.

    Anyone has similar experience?

Could this be the infamous CPU whine? If so, then it only occurs when the CPU is idle. Full load the CPU with a program such as the wPrime benchmark and see whether the noise stops while the benchmark is running.

I have an E4300 and mine makes the same electronic whining noise also, but only on battery and only after the battery is at 60-50% or below. I had an Acer Travelmate 8104 (Intel Pentium M CPU) that did the same thing. Through a bit of internet research it seems like it may be caused by the power switching circuitry for the CPU, SpeedStep. Try turning off SpeedStep and running your laptop at max CPU frequency 100% of the time and see if the noise is still there. I actually haven't tried that myself, so I can't tell you if it eliminated the noise I am hearing.

A tech came out to my job yesterday to replace a motherboard on an E4300 we have, because the LAN kept dropping connection. I've just re-imaged it and MAN this thing is buzzing/whining like crazy. Definitely didnt do it before this MB swap, so I'm going to have to get a tech back out here. Certainly cant give this machine back to the user with it making this much noise.
