Hello. Since my M6500 came with a Seagate ST320423ASG I ordered roughly the same drive (but bigger (ST9500420ASG)) for use in the second drivebay. Of course it is backlogged, so I haven't recieved it yet. Hence, I cannot vouch for the compatibility. ;)

The market has changed and what Dell invented is nothing new anymore, companies like HP and Lenovo have beaten them at their own game.

Take a look at the Dell stock from last, it week tanked and not because of earnings but because of profits. Big picture does not mean much but as you said they selling, just not making enough money.

People like us who like Dell hardware mostly agree it's an under rated brand.
But they have some serious gaps in customer service and delivery times.
My rep is in meetings weekly talking about why they can't get product to customers in a timely fashion.

Thinks like accessories, for instance and spare parts are a total joke.
I want a mouse, keyboard or dock, KVM you name it you are lucky if you get them within a week.

Out of warranty parts, have you tried getting them?
Get routed to Mexico and wait 3 days to find out the parts are on planner hold. I have 6 models of desktops and laptops that are 4 years old that we have to wait almost a month for. Simple parts like a power supply on a GX280 are end of life already. And my company is a large business customer spending over 5 million a year with them, which is not huge but still.

I have to use CDW and other vendors who bend over backwards to get you parts next or same day. And other companies who are constantly trying to get us to switch to HP and Lenovo and can promise same week shipping on server, PC and laptop standard configurations under contract.

Dell has none of that and they know it.
I told my rep and manager this, and all they can do is take it to their meetings, they empathize but as a company they can't provide that level of service.

My company values customer service and availability over price.
Dell just can't do it anymore.

LOL, I saw this on Dell's UK website and even though the M6500 is Dell's top of the range laptop workstation I thought the price of this accessory was a bit over the top...see following link

    http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sn...&l=en&s=bsd&cs=ukbsdt1&sku=461-10151#Overview

Just hope they correct it before some poor sucker really does buy it :)

Perhaps havoctex can notify the department responsible to amend that quite obvious typo

Just saw that you are talking about a 3M screen filter to 44,444.44 which is either an error, or its the greatest screen protector ever made.

There were a lot of pricing errors on the Dell web sites a couple of months ago. I remember seeing Canon camera lenses and Seagate hard drives priced about 90% too low.

Maybe it comes down to your account manager. My experiences with Dell and CDW have been the exact opposite of yours for the last 3 years. CDW-G used to be great - just like you said - with our previous Rep. Then we got burned by a less than stellar CDW-G rep.

We also have a good number of GX-280s still in service, but have not had noticeable issues with spare parts. Some of these are finally coming out of service so as those still in use experience more wear and tear, we have spares to pull parts from.

Our only real issue with parts of service comes from the Gateway computers that were orphaned with the company went under. We don't have a lot of Gateways left to service though.

Dell also has us set up with an on-site parts locker that really speeds things up. Warranty replacements can be done the same day, and when the replacement part comes in, it goes back into the parts locker. Out of warranty works the same way, you purchase the part and install it the same day without waiting a couple of days for a part. I don't know how many Dell systems you have in use or if you have a service department certified by Dell as self-maintainers, but you might ask about other service options.

I hope that Dell increases the number of Reps like ours. He really does go out of his way to help us out.

    Hi all,

The M6500 has 3M Privacy Filter option, it is enabled and disabled in the BIOS.

Does anyone have this option and how do you like it?

    Thank You,

I'm getting my M6500 this week, this is my 1st Dell system. I want to make a clean windows 7 install from scratch on an OCZ SSD. I heard about Dell setting up small diagnostic partition on their installed system.
Do I need to set it on my fresh SSD or can I do without it (do technical assitance use it ?)
If it has to be installed, can you get it on Dell support ?
