I also jumped on the RFD vostro 3350 deal.
Just got mine delivered yesterday, a day after giving confirmation.

Does anyone have issues with a grainy screen?

Well, there are only two RAM slots and I don't recall anyone getting his hands on 2 x 8 GB SO-DIMM DDR3 sticks to test with the 3350. But the limitation might come from the CPU (i.e. the i5-2410M; link) or from the BIOS (meaning from Dell).

With the 8cell I managed close to 7hours of watching videos on VLC and wifi on and fairly low brightness.

What are people getting with the 4 and 6 cell battery? I'm really thinking of calling dell and see if they will switch the battery for me. The thing sticks out a lot and I doubt a 14" sleeve will fit it properly. Probably going to be easier to carry to school in my backpack if he battery was smaller.

So after using the 3350 and the v131, I can see the screen is slightly better on the 3350. The screen appears to be more solid and shakes less when typing.

I have the 4-cell, and i get a guaranteed 4+ hours of regular office work. WiFi/BT on, screen at ~66-75%. I haven't done any kind of testing with movies, but I did manage to watch Die Hard (2hrs without ending credits) from my hard drive on a flight. I had maybe 50% of my battery left? Don't know what my LCD brightness was, but wireless was definitely off.

Yeah, it's the hard drive sitting just underneath it. Nothing to worry ;)

Will a solid state be better for heat?

I noticed my The CPU reached temps of 84c while playing league of legends. CPUID HWmonitor doesn't read the 6490m gpu.

HDDs and SSDs generate similar ...warmth - 40 deg. Celsius is not heat ;)

In order for the dGPU to be detected by HWMonitor, it must be active (an app or a game must be using) prior to running the monitoring software. Also there has been a major issue with switching GPUs on Vostros, so you might need to do some more reading about it (the fix was recently mentioned in this thread).
