I was able to find a new genuine 9-cell battery for $80 and got it for a friend on Ebay. Put it through a couple cycles and it was working great.

A new or used genuine in Ebay could be risky, but if you do the research well, you should be fine. An aftermarket battery isn't risky. It's guaranteed to be a waste of money. ;)

I am almost 100% sure that the battery is not reporting the numbers correctly. A few charge cycles will put some wear and tear on it while you had it for 16 months and it's brand spanking new? Doubtful.

i use everest ultimate to get this number, while it might not be accurate, but i have several other laptops which didn't report 0% wear level.

I am not doubting you, I am sure the software is correct but I think the hardware is not reporting it correctly. :)

FWIW, in the UK, BlackCat PC sell Dell original batteries and PSUs at very competetive prices.

just tried to disconnect AC power, with external screen, after two minutes, everest ultimate shows capacity down from 100% to 99%, seems accurate.

You should run the battery right down, taking note at intervals of time (on the clock), power drain and reported time remaining. Sometimes a battery can appear to be healthy and then it drops from 40% to 10% remaining in a couple of minutes.

Ok this is a bit off-topic. But the incident is absolutely worth posting.

Following this thread, a fellow NBRer contacted me and offered me to send me his genuine Dell 9-cell battery. (He doesn't have his Latitude anymore so he has no use for the battery.) He sent it to me for free :D :D

Super-nice! I don't know if he wants to keep this private so I won't mention his screen name for now.

I now have 3 1/2h+ battery life! This forum FTW!!

    EDIT: Thanks again, diggy!

You're welcome!! I've had the good fortune to have folks on forums help me out in many ways, so I try and give back when/where I can. Glad the battery found itself useful, and not in the Best Buy battery recycle bin where I would have eventually taken it
