For me, everything looks like it should be working (all of the options and commands are present), but rendering isn't handed over to the M5000M.

An easy way to check is, open the NVIDIA control panel and select "Desktop -> Display GPU Activity Icon..." from the menu at the top. An icon will appear in the system tray which will be black/grey if the NVIDIA GPU is powered off, and colored if it is powered on. If you click the icon, you can see which programs are using the NVIDIA GPU. Make sure that you are running with the laptop screen only (external displays, except VGA, will be powered solely by the NVIDIA GPU whether Optimus is on or not).

In my case, the only way I can get anything to use the NVIDIA GPU is if it is using a compute interface (i.e. CUDA). I can run 3DMark and even when instructed to use the NVIDIA GPU, it runs on the Intel GPU, and as such performance is pitiful. (And I'm sure I know how to work it properly, I was using Optimus with the K5000M for years...)

If it's working for you, let me know which driver version you are running and maybe I'll try changing that up.

I will have to check the NVidia control panel when I'm at the computer. It seems to be working as my K5000M though.

To get this M4000M working I installed the driver from Dell...

    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us...precision-m6700&languageCode=en&categoryId=VI

I followed a tutorial to add my hardware ID in the .INF file to install the driver and it seems to be working. I can see both graphics cards and got 9258 on 3DMark11. I'm getting max 65 degrees, but can't seem to overclock the vram. Core can be increased.

Yes, the driver is indicating when the M4000M is being used and when it switches off. So Optimus is working.

My driver is 376.54 from Dell's website. I added my hardware info to use one of the existing M4000M profiles in the INF file.

Only odd thing is I can overclock the core but not the memory.

Hello there, do you still have the GTX980M windows 7 drivers? Can I download that somewhere? I'm also going to upgrade my 6700 with the 980M, any advice? What X-bracket do I need?

    Hello.
In my Dell Precision M6700 IPS RGB LED I put the video card of Nvidia Quadro М5000М, accordingly changed the file of видеодрайвера of INF. M5000M works steadily and quite, tested in 3ДМарк06 and 3ДМарк11. But there is one problem (the brightness of display is minimum and not regulated the keyboard of notebook, display not bright ), lowering of versions of BIOS of system board of М6700 with A19 to А06 of results did not give. I think that vbios maps conflicts with the system board of M6700 and it is needed to edit vbios. It can be for whom I am correct vbios М5000М for work in this configuration of notebook of М6700 IPS RGB LED, I need your help and I will be thankful beforehand. Like yet to specify, will there be a map of Р5000 to work in this notebook???

What vBIOS is installed on you M5000M? You can check with GPU-Z. Mine has 84.04.6D.00.08 and it works properly with brightness control. I have the regular display and not the IPS display, however.

P5000 has been observed working in systems with the IPS display, without brightness control (stuck at max brightness). It requires a specific early "engineering sample" vBIOS. @iieeann knows the most about this. If you get a P5000 card with a later vBIOS (likely to happen) then it may be a trick to get the engineering sample vBIOS flashed on.

I don't know of any way to flash, other than using NVFLASH. It will probably complain about the device ID or PCI ID being incorrect — I believe this will always be the case when trying to flash an "unsupported" GPU in one of these systems, for the same reason that you have to modify the INF to include the proper device ID when you install the driver. You will have to use the appropriate override option to tell NVFLASH to flash anyway.

For me version of drivers 391.74, the system Windows 7, identifier of display, is set - 053f Here data on the changed file nvdmwi.INF:
    [NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.6.1]

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13FC.053F.1028% = Section206, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13FC&SUBSYS_053F1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.11BC.153F.1028% = Section122, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11BC&SUBSYS_153F1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13FD.053F.1028% = Section206, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13FD&SUBSYS_053F1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.11BD.153F.1028% = Section122, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_11BD&SUBSYS_153F1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13FE.053F.1028% = Section206, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13FE&SUBSYS_053F1028

    %NVIDIA_DEV.13F8.053F.1028% = Section206, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_13F8&SUBSYS_053F1028

And at the end of this file information is accordingly added about М5000М М5000М works perfectly, in the controller of devices Windows 7 determined correctly, there is ттолько to change vbios.
