    Okay first things first;

    My screen works perfectly fine. Not cracked or anything. It's just the lowest resolution LCD from Dell at the time I bought it (Sept 2007, practically when they first came out).

    Now years later I do want a larger screen size. I saw there was a WUXGA 1920x1200 res screen from a site my coworker recommended for LCDs for 115 dollars. I wonder if the higher resolution screen if I bought it would fry the inverter as it might require additional power and inverters are very power sensitive.

    Or if that wasn't possible, what is the largest screen size anyone has swapped into their Vostro 1500?

    Might I suggest this thread in the Dell Vostro forum? I can move it there for you.

    If you can find a WUXGA screen made for the Vostro 1500 or Inspiron 1520, it should be a drop-in replacement. You might need to replace the display cable as well, but at least that should be a super-cheap part.

    Screens from the D820, D830, and possibly even CCFL screens from the M1530 may also work. Don't quote me on that, though.

    Also moved to Dell Vostro and Latitude.

    I would not recommend 1920x1200 on 15", I had a Precision M70 with that resolution, and it is much too tiny (I loved it for my Visio drawings though). 1680x1050 is pretty good for 15".

    However, spending this much money on a laptop that old is probably not a good idea (especially since it has the faulty Nvidia).

    Well I'll consider the 1680x1050.

    Laptop LCD Screens has the screen for 106 dollars. Me and my coworker have used this place before, very professional. Screens come nicely packaged, with a buisness card in the box.

    I like my laptop, that's why I'll still drop money into it. And if my nVidia chip is defective (BGA repairs are pretty common) a better excuse to upgrade up to the 8600M GT which I will be doing shortly anyway.
